Inspection Checklist for Semi-Trailer Axles After Water Crossing or Immersion
Car friends should pay attention to their own safety, but also pay more attention to the condition of the vehicle. If the vehicle has been driving in water for a long time, or the axle is immersed in water, it should be checked and maintained in time.
Semi-trailer driving through water briefly
The impact on the axle components of the semi-trailer driving briefly through a flooded area is not significant, but after driving, it is necessary to go to the nearest service station to check whether there is any water or dirt remaining in the axle components.
Semi-trailer immersion in water for a long time
If the semi-trailer has been immersed in water for a long time and the water level exceeds the wheel hub cover (based on the horizontal plane or the trace line after the water has receded), the following checks and treatments must be carried out before using the vehicle again:
Wheel hub system
Open the wheel hub cover of the semi-trailer and check whether there is any water inflow. If there is no water inflow, it indicates that the situation is relatively mild. If there is inflow, further inspection of the lubricating grease and bearings of the wheel hub system is required to determine if there are any failures or damages.
Brake friction pads
The surface of the brake friction pads is easily covered with mud and sand after immersion, affecting their braking ability. They should be checked and rinsed with plenty of water before being used again.
Automatic adjustment arm
First mark the current clearance position of the self-adjusting arm, and then set the clearance to the maximum. The semi-trailer vehicle should brake several times to see if the clearance of the self-adjusting arm can return to the original mark position. If it can, it indicates that the self-adjusting arm is operating normally.
Disc brakes
The connection position between the pneumatic chamber push rod and the brake caliper of the disc brakes needs to be checked for any water inflow.
Brake pneumatic chamber
The exhaust hole of the double-chamber pneumatic chamber is easily flooded below the water surface. If water and debris enter, it will cause the air passage to become blocked, and in severe cases, the semi-trailer brakes will fail. After immersion in water, it should be checked at the nearest service station as soon as possible.
The above are the preliminary inspection items after immersion in water. To ensure the long-term use of the semi-trailer, it is recommended to take the vehicle to the nearest service station for inspection and maintenance after immersion in water to ensure driving safety.
